Inna:
⁃ Hi Wim, my leadership asked me to show the impact of my innovation work. Any thoughts on potential metrics?
Wim:
⁃ That’s a good question. What was the job description you got from your leadership?
Inna:
⁃ There were 2 parts to this.
Wim:
⁃ Let’s take them one by one. What was the first part?
Inna:
⁃ To identify and share successful innovations from across the organization. The leadership team had identified 3 focus areas: access, adherence, engagement.
Wim:
⁃ My approach has always been to keep innovation as simple as possible. Also for metrics: you do want to measure change or impact, but do not over-complicate it so you spend too much time on metrics.
⁃ As an example, metrics for engagement could be: Global impact of these innovations on customer engagement, like how many more customers were reached or how much better did customers retain your message. Or, if you recently started up your Innovation efforts, the number of innovative experiments that focused on engagement or how many country teams scaled a successful engagement innovation
Inna:
⁃ Thanks. The second part of my job description was to stimulate innovation across the corporation, so that more employees would experiment with innovations.
Wim:
⁃ Again, I’d keep it very simple. For example: what and how many initiatives did you take to stimulate innovation or how many more ideas, experiments, pilots did you track over time
Inna:
⁃ That’s indeed practical: Simple, not time consuming; Directly related to the objectives.
